Lighting Design
To look beautiful and dress yourself beautifully in your bathroom you need just the right lighting. Keep shadows away from your face by placing sconces 30” opposite horizontally
as you face your mirror and at eye level .
The sconces are your task lighting. Ceiling light whether recessed or attached should create enought light to keep the space evenly lit. The sources of the light, designers call them lamps, the general public calls them bulbs, are as important as the placement of that light.
Halogen light enables you to see color without any distortion. The incandescent A lamp you commonly buy at the supermarket won’t show the blue color family clearly. Fluorescents come in a variety of color enhancing qualities and can be chosen to match early morning light or incandescent light. The natural light from your window adds to true color rendition.
The decorative colors you choose for the finishes in your bathroom also affect color rendition. White enhances all colors. Other colors will influence how you see your skin and your clothes.
The portals or portholes I have designed over the countertop in this bathroom for 2 teen-age sisters allow the natural light from the window over the tub in the next room to complement the artificial lighting.
The highly reflective white glass tile on floors and walls will help the girls apply just the right color make-up. The decorative blue mosaic tile in the bath and on two of the walls adds the pretty touches that make this bathroom suite so attractive.
